Ecuador President Daniel Noboa announces fuel price cut and November election

President Daniel Noboa confirmed that fuel prices will be reduced in August 2026, noting the government is not seeking a new IMF loan but is extending the existing financing program. The National Electoral Council (CNE) approved the convocation of the local (seccional) elections and the CPCCS for 29 November 2026, with 13,827,643 registered voters. Candidate registration will be conducted online from 2 to 17 August, and voting will also be possible for prisoners on 26 November and by mail on 27 November. The election date was moved forward from February 2027 due to the risk of heavy rains and flooding linked to the El Niño phenomenon.

The government launched a green‑financing programme for the Amazon region, providing US$21 million from the Inter‑American Development Bank (BID) BASE line and US$16 million from the BID Bioeconomía line to support sustainable bio‑businesses and tourism. A decree reforming the horizontal property law now allows authorities to restrict non‑essential common‑area services for co‑owners who are in arrears. Additionally, the health ministry removed 1,453 irregular medicines and medical devices from the market, and a public‑investment plan set to start in September 2026 will boost construction, agriculture and social assistance.
