Ecuador President Daniel Noboa to tour Asia to boost trade

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa will embark on an official diplomatic tour of Asia from August 16 to August 28, 2026, visiting China, Singapore, and Vietnam. The mission, formalized via Executive Decree 469, aims to strengthen economic ties, attract foreign investment, and expand market access for Ecuadorian products.

A primary objective in China is resolving trade restrictions imposed by Chinese customs on 14 Ecuadorian shrimp companies due to sanitary concerns. This blockage significantly impacts Ecuador’s non-oil exports, as China is a major destination for the country's shrimp. The delegation also seeks to activate the trade commission of the Free Trade Agreement and secure sanitary clearances for products such as quinoa, avocado, blueberries, pineapple, and dairy.

Additionally, the tour will address energy and mining interests, including discussions regarding the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant and potential contracts with PowerChina. The mission seeks to diversify Ecuador's export markets and secure new financing for the national economy.
