Ecuador's CNE registers 13.8 million voters for 2026 elections

On 2 July, Ecuador’s National Electoral Council (CNE) approved an updated electoral register containing 13,827,643 eligible voters for the scheduled general elections on 29 November 2026. Of these, 13,331,335 are in the national territory and 496,308 are registered in the three overseas constituencies. The CNE also published a passive register of 1,268,491 citizens who have not voted in the last four elections or completed administrative procedures.

The council completed the internal‑democracy phase for political organisations: 22 parties fulfilled the requirements to select their precandidates, while four groups (Izquierda Democrática, SUMA, Movimiento MAÍZ de Zapotillo and RETO) failed to meet administrative deadlines and were barred from the next step. The CNE warned that excluded parties may still contest the process through alliances. The updates were carried out with cooperation from the Civil Registry, the Judiciary Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.
