Ecuador's Correísmo Joins Socialist Party for Quito Mayor and Pichincha Prefecture Races
The Revolución Ciudadana (RC) movement, known as correísmo, has signed a limited electoral pact with the Partido Socialista Ecuatoriano (PSE) and Unidad Popular (UP) ahead of the early sectional elections scheduled for November 2026. The agreement confines RC’s participation to six provinces, focusing on the Quito mayoral race—where incumbent mayor Pabel Muñoz is expected to run under the alliance—and the Pichincha prefectural contest, backing current vice‑prefect Alexandro Tonello.
RC leader Gabriela Rivadeneira confirmed that the coalition will not operate nationwide, and PSE vice‑president Elsa Guerra emphasized that the pact will only place RC candidates on PSE lists in the designated provinces. Outside Quito and Pichincha, Unidad Popular will compete separately, maintaining other local alliances in cities such as Guayaquil and Cuenca.
