Ecuador's IESS Opens New Portoviejo Building for 820,000 Beneficiaries

President Daniel Noboa inaugurated a new administrative building for the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) in Portoviejo, Manabí, on July 30, 2026. The $9.2 million facility replaces the temporary offices used since the 2016 earthquake destroyed the previous headquarters and will permanently house about 300 public servants.

The modern complex centralises a range of services for roughly 820,000 affiliates, retirees and employers in the province, including labor‑history queries, reserve‑fund withdrawals, unemployment and severance insurance, loan applications, and employer data updates. During the ceremony Noboa handed the keys to IESS user Eva Romero, symbolising the return of a functional, dignified service point that will open to the public on August 3, 2026.
