Ecuador's Production Ministry launches Cuenca trade fairs and new tuna sector executive board

The Ministry of Production, Commerce Exterior and Investments invited producers in Azuay province to participate in a series of trade fairs to be held in Cuenca throughout 2026. The fairs aim to enhance the commercialisation of national products, allow direct sales to the public, expand business networks and raise brand visibility. Eligible participants must have a tax registration (RUC or RIMPE), an active invoicing system, and be registered with the ministry under one of its specific schemes; health certifications are required where applicable. Separately, the ministry established the first Executive Table for the tuna sector in Manta, creating a permanent public‑private dialogue platform. Representatives from government agencies and the tuna value chain will use the board to identify sector challenges, improve competitiveness, increase exports and attract new investment. The tuna industry, a key non‑oil export, generated about $546 million in fresh tuna sales, up 22.2% year‑on‑year, while canned fish exports fell 5%. The new table is intended to strengthen productivity and contribute to national economic growth.
