Ecumenical Pact Delivered at Bari’s Basilica of San Nicola

On 1 August 2026, an ecumenical meeting was held in Bari, Italy, in the Basilica of San Nicola. Organized by Azione Cattolica as part of the Orizzonti Mediterranei programme, the event brought together representatives of the Catholic, Waldensian (Evangelical) and Orthodox churches. The gathering marked the delivery of a Pact – a document produced after three years of inter‑church dialogue and originally signed on 23 January 2026 – which was handed to Azione Cattolica.

Delegations from regional and diocesan levels across Italy participated, aiming to strengthen peace and fraternity among Christian communities. Azione Cattolica’s national president, Giuseppe Notarstefano, said, “We entrust our diocesan associations with a concrete commitment: to turn words into deeds, dialogue into relationships, and fraternity into shared paths in the territories.” The event emphasized prayer, mutual listening and the intention to translate the Pact’s principles into concrete actions throughout the country.
