Edgar Herrera Lendechy Leads Green Party Revitalization in Veracruz
Edgar Herrera Lendechy, known as “Gary,” was appointed head of the Veracruz state executive committee of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) in November 2024. A nephew of former governor Fidel Herrera Beltrán and cousin of PVEM leader Javier Herrera Borunda, he emphasizes building a new cadre of young activists rather than merely fielding candidates.
Facing internal accusations of selling candidacies during the 2024‑2025 electoral process, Herrera Lendechy launched an internal investigation and invited complaints, positioning himself as a cautious manager in the party’s pivotal role as a political “hinge” in the state. He also aims to help Javier Herrera Borunda win the federal deputy seat for the Cosamaloapan district.
His strategy highlights a generational shift within the regional Green Party, seeking to attract youth who view the party as a “home” beyond environmental ideology.
