Mexico Green Party restructuring and expansion
Overview
As the PVEM continues its reorganization for the 2026–2027 election cycle, the party is intensifying territorial and recruitment efforts across several states.
In Tamaulipas, the ‘Nueva Fuerza Verde’ State Selection Committee, led by Manuel Muñoz Cano, is evaluating candidates for 43 municipal presidencies and 36 local deputy positions. The selection process is scheduled to conclude on August 31.
Recruitment and structural strengthening have progressed in other regions. In Michoacán, state leader Ernesto Núñez Aguilar has formally invited former local deputy Samanta Flores Adame to join the party, citing her political experience. The party’s Michoacán parliamentary group, led by coordinator Sandra Arreola Ruiz, recently released its second legislative report, emphasizing a focus on environmental, health, security, and social welfare issues.
In the State of Mexico, party delegate Luis Montaño reported that support in Atizapán de Zaragoza grew from 3% to 16.9% within a single year. Following meetings with state leader José Alberto ‘Pepe’ Couttolenc Buentello, the party is evaluating its strategy for upcoming elections, including the possibility of forming an alliance with the Morena party.
In Chihuahua, state leader Octavio Borunda Quevedo swore in a new Municipal Committee in Delicias to bolster the party’s identity. Meanwhile, in San Luis Potosí, PVEM officials categorically rejected allegations that party members were involved in a disturbance at the PAN headquarters, stating there is no evidence of party instruction and suggesting the accusations aim to divert attention from internal PAN conflicts.
