Edinburgh Zoo announces birth of capybara triplets

Edinburgh Zoo has announced the birth of three baby capybaras, discovered by keepers on October 28. The newborns were born overnight to parents Luna and Rodney and are currently staying close to their mother as they settle into their environment.

The triplets follow the birth of a capybara named Bru in May, who was the first to be born in Scotland in 18 years. Zoo staff noted that the new arrivals will undergo health checks in the coming weeks to determine their sex and select names.

Darren McGarry, head of animal care at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, described the social dynamics of the capybara group as having personalities akin to a soap opera. The announcement follows previous social media interest regarding the animals, including a viral moment involving Rodney and Luna’s sister, Cali.
