Edirne Balkan Turks Federation commemorates 1821 Morea Massacre
Members of the Edirne Balkan Turks Federation held a commemoration in Edirne to mark the 205th anniversary of the 1821 Morea Massacre. As part of the event, a black wreath was placed in front of the Greek Consulate in Edirne to honor the approximately 40,000 Turks killed in Tripoliçe during the Morea Revolt.
During the ceremony, Ismail Kocaköse, General Secretary of the Balkan Rumeli Turks Confederation, called for Greece to confront historical realities regarding the violence against civilians. Additionally, a painting exhibition focused on the Morea Massacre was opened on Saraçlar Street.
Sabri Can Sannav, Director of the Trakya University Balkan Research Institute, noted that the historical violence during the revolt also impacted Muslim Albanians and the Jewish community in the region. He emphasized the importance of examining these events through historical sources, including Ottoman archives and foreign accounts.
