Edmand Lara accuses Bolivian government of plotting illegal arrest
Bolivian Vice President Edmand Lara has publicly accused President Rodrigo Paz’s administration of plotting to arrest him through a fabricated legal process. In an open letter released on social media while traveling in Spain, Lara stated he fears for his physical safety and life, claiming that warnings from members of the Bolivian Police suggest Colonel Marcelo Ferrufino is manufacturing a fraudulent investigation to justify an illegal detention.
Lara, who moved into political opposition early in the current term, characterized the alleged actions as a political maneuver intended to silence his defense of the Constitution and democratic order. This escalation follows the recent arrest of Bolivia’s Attorney General, Roger Mariaca, who was accused by the Paz government of links to drug trafficking.
As of the latest reports, the government of Rodrigo Paz has not issued an official response to the Vice President's allegations. The growing rift between the two highest officials in the executive branch has raised concerns regarding institutional stability and political predictability in the country.
