Bolivian political tension between Paz and Lara

The political confrontation in Bolivia between President Rodrigo Paz and Vice President Edmand Lara has intensified following the release of audio recordings. These recordings allegedly capture conversations between President Paz, First Lady María Elena Urquidi, and political advisor Fernando Cerimedo regarding the implementation of a state of exception. Lara suggested the audio indicates Cerimedo held a more active role in government decision-making than acknowledged, potentially discussing interventions in the Cochabamba Tropics.

President Paz has questioned the authenticity of the recordings, calling for forensic analysis to determine if they were manipulated by artificial intelligence. He has maintained that his administration remains focused on national necessities such as food, fuel, and healthcare, while criticizing Lara’s priorities.

Adding to the crisis, former President Evo Morales has criticized the government, claiming the state of exception is being utilized to “persecute social leaders” and that current economic policies are impoverishing the population.

Separately, Vice President Lara has demanded an independent investigation into an explosion at the RAM-2 military barracks in Viacha, rejecting claims that the blast was caused by fireworks and expressing solidarity with the affected families.
