Alberta crime: Shooting in Calgary and theft in Edmonton
Police in Calgary are investigating a targeted shooting in northwest Calgary that left a 19-year-old man with serious injuries. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on a Thursday night in the 100 block of Carrington Blvd. N.W., involving gunfire exchanged between at least two vehicles. One vehicle crashed near 144th Avenue and Carrington Boulevard N.W. following the shootout. The victim was found in the driver's seat and is currently in stable condition at a hospital.
In Edmonton, a local business owner, Chad Osman of Valvo Electrical Supply Ltd, has expressed frustration with the Edmonton Police Service following a recent break-in. Osman reported that despite a security guard catching a suspect with stolen copper wire and bus bars, the individual was released after questioning. The Edmonton Police Service stated that the suspect was charged with break and enter, possession of tools, and mischief, but noted that police must generally release charged persons as soon as practicable unless continued detention is justified.
