Nanaksar Gurdwara stabbing in Edmonton

Overview

On August 21, 2026, a 27-year-old man was arrested following a stabbing at the Nanaksar Gurdwara in northeast Edmonton, Canada. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM during morning prayers. Two worshippers, aged 51 and 75, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after the suspect attempted to access the prayer area.

The suspect, who had been released from federal prison only one day prior and had failed to report to a halfway house, has a history of violent offenses including aggravated assault. The Edmonton Police Service’s Hate Crimes Unit began investigating the motive to determine if the attack was motivated by religious bias.

By September 10, Edmonton police scheduled a news conference to provide updates regarding the ongoing investigation into the stabbing.
