Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo Calls for Special Courts to Speed Trials of Kidnappers and Cultists

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo announced plans to establish a special court that would try kidnappers and cultists within two to three weeks. He said the court would fast‑track cases and that he would sign death warrants for convicted offenders, promising public executions at the Ring Road roundabout in Benin City.

The governor paraded several suspects arrested by the Edo Police Command, including members linked to a recent kidnapping at Benin City’s Vegetable Market. He offered a N10 million reward for information leading to the rescue of the kidnapped woman. Senator Joseph Ikpea of Edo Central voiced support for the governor’s proposal, praising the crackdown and urging continued cooperation between state officials and security agencies to improve safety across the state.
