Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo Highlights Tinubu Reforms and Releases N1bn for Pensioners

Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms—particularly the removal of fuel subsidies—have boosted state finances, allowing salaries to be paid on time and enabling major infrastructure projects such as the Ramat Park flyover, the Ekpoma‑Auchi highway reconstruction and the extension of the Lagos‑Calabar coastal highway through Edo. Speaking at a diaspora engagement in London, he urged Edo professionals abroad to invest their expertise and resources in the state’s development.

Okpebholo also announced the release of N1 billion to continue paying gratuity arrears to retired local‑government and primary‑school workers from the 2012 batch. The payment was confirmed by Kabiru Adjoto, chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, and welcomed by the Nigerian Union of Pensioners and other labour unions, who called for further releases to clear the remaining backlog.
