Edo State development under Governor Okpebholo

Entities: Monday Okpebholo · Bola Ahmed Tinubu · Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria · John Odior · Edo State Local Government Service Commission

Overview

In late July, Governor Monday Okpebholo linked President Tinubu’s economic reforms—especially the removal of fuel subsidies—to stronger state finances. He announced the release of N1 billion to clear pension gratuity arrears for retired local‑government and primary‑school workers and highlighted several infrastructure projects, including the Ramat Park flyover, the Ekpoma‑Auchi highway reconstruction and the extension of the Lagos‑Calabar coastal highway through Edo.

A few days later, the National Economic Council’s Implementation Monitoring Committee and major labour unions praised the administration’s progress. They noted the near‑completion of the Ramat Park Flyover, commended the appointment of John Odior as Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, and pointed to improvements such as timely salary payments, regularisation of ad‑hoc staff, office upgrades and a rise in internally generated revenue.
