Edo State Death‑Penalty Proposal Backed by Senator Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole publicly endorsed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s proposal to execute kidnappers and bandits by firing squad. Speaking at the APC campaign launch for the Edo North local government elections in Auchi, Oshiomhole said the measure was needed to curb insecurity and praised the state’s right to set its own punishments.

He also voiced support for establishing a state police force to complement the Nigerian Police. Governor Okpebholo highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects – roads, schools and markets – funded by the federal removal of the fuel subsidy, and used the campaign event to introduce APC candidates ahead of the upcoming local elections and to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
