Sandrini Energy Storage project goes live in California

EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) have completed the Sandrini Energy Storage project in Kern County, California. This 92 MW / 368 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) is co-located with the 300 MW Sandrini Solar site.

The facility has the capacity to power more than 22,000 homes. It is designed to strengthen grid reliability and support California’s clean energy goals by transforming solar-generated power into reliable, around-the-clock electricity, particularly during peak demand periods. RCEA holds an energy storage service agreement for 100% of the battery capacity and purchases 100 MW from the adjacent solar site.

The project is expected to provide significant economic benefits, including over $21 million in local tax revenue and more than $5 million to support local public services and infrastructure such as schools, roads, and emergency services. The construction phase supported approximately 250 total jobs.
