Pernambuco election candidates pledge higher Chapéu de Palha benefit and unveil party slates

Pre‑governor candidate João Campos announced a proposal to raise the state's Chapéu de Palha rural benefit to at least half a minimum wage and to uncouple it from Bolsa Família, allowing recipients to keep both payments fully.

The MDB held its Pernambuco convention in Recife, confirming Luciano Bivar as the substitute senator for Humberto Costa and endorsing Iza Arruda and Zé Queiroz for legislative seats, with little reference to President Lula during the speeches.

PP Senate hopeful Eduardo da Fonte pledged to align with President Lula if elected, citing his two‑decade congressional experience and shared policy positions such as labor‑rights reforms, while the party prepares its candidacy conventions in August.
