Eduardo Paes bars deputy Lucinha's party label in Rio elections

Eduardo Paes, pre‑candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) for the Rio de Janeiro governorship, announced he will prevent state deputy Lucinha from appearing on the PSD list in the October state‑assembly election. The move means she would have to run without a party endorsement.

Paes said the decision is intended to underline his security agenda and distance his future administration from organized‑crime and militia influence. Lucinha has been under investigation for alleged links to the “Zinho” militia, accused of passing information to the group; she and her former aide deny any wrongdoing. She may still seek re‑election as an independent.
