Eduardo Paes Secures Municipal Backing in Rio de Janeiro Ahead of 2026 Governor Race

Mayor Taninho Toledo of Natividade (Union) announced his support for Eduardo Paes, the PSD pre‑candidate for Rio de Janeiro governor, during a meeting at the municipal office that also hosted federal deputy Murilo Gouvea and other local leaders. Toledo said Paes’ project promises regional development and better quality of life, and highlighted the importance of dialogue with municipalities ahead of the October elections.

In Paracambi, mayor André Ceciliano (PT) played a central role in Paes’ interior‑state outreach, leading a public horseback ride in Itaguaí and later hosting a strategic lunch at his countryside estate in Mendes. The gathering brought together dozens of mayors, federal and state deputies, and party figures such as Benedita da Silva (PT) and Helena Vieira (PSDB) to coordinate campaign strategies and cement alliances across the Baixada, Serra and Centro‑Sul regions. Both events illustrate Paes’ effort to consolidate support among interior municipalities as he leads opinion polls for the 2026 gubernatorial contest.
