Education authorities address childcare and school supply costs

As the new school year approaches, authorities and families are addressing logistical and financial challenges. In Cyprus, Minister of Education Athina Michailidou has announced plans to gradually expand public summer schools to address the lack of childcare options for working parents during the summer break. The government is also considering potential financial support for parents using private summer programs and emphasizes the need for more creative engagement structures for children.

In Greece, the upcoming school season is placing significant financial pressure on households already struggling with the cost of living. Retailers, including bookstores and major chains like Jumbo and Public, are preparing for a surge in demand for school supplies. While some discounts of 10% or more are already available, major consumer activity is expected to peak once teachers distribute official supply lists.
