Education inspection finds exam delays in 98 schools
The General Inspection of Education and Science (IGEC) has identified delays in the handling of national secondary school exams across 98 schools. According to a report requested by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, 69 schools experienced delays in submitting requests for exam re-evaluations to the National Exam Jury, while 29 schools delayed the delivery of first-phase exams to the Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda.
The IGEC stated that it found no evidence of “deliberate actions” that compromised the integrity or confidentiality of the exams. Instead, the issues were attributed to “procedural lapses, verification failures and operational errors” related to the organization and dispatch of documentation.
The inspection has recommended several corrective measures, including the opening of inquiries into specific undisclosed cases. It also proposed that the National Exam Jury improve or replace current technological platforms to enhance security and training, and urged schools to strengthen their internal control mechanisms regarding national exam processes.
