Educational and legislative leaders address labor and oversight concerns in Argentina and Dominican Republic
In Argentina, the XXII Political Educational Congress was held at the National Technological University in General Pacheco. Víctor Alarcón, representing the Association of Physical Education Teachers (ADEFCA) and the Confederation of Argentine Educators (CEA), addressed the assembly regarding the current state of public education. Participants discussed permanent training, new technologies, and the pursuit of a National Parity Collective Bargaining Agreement for the education sector.
Alarcón highlighted a concerning national landscape characterized by declining purchasing power, job precariousness, increased workloads, and infrastructure difficulties. The congress aimed to address regional inequalities and strengthen union organizations in response to national austerity measures.
In the Dominican Republic, Senator Omar Fernández participated in an academic forum at Universidad APEC (Unapec) regarding the role of Congress in a social and democratic state of law. Fernández emphasized the need for greater legislative oversight and a democratic balance between the ruling party and the opposition.
Fernández noted the challenges faced by the opposition, which holds a significant minority in both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. He also raised concerns regarding the upcoming General State Budget, stressing the necessity of critical voices to analyze legislation and provide transparency to the citizenry.
