Argentine education sector labor disputes

Overview

In Argentina, labor tensions in the education sector have escalated. Initially, the Buenos Aires provincial government warned of potential salary deductions for teachers participating in strikes organized by groups lacking formal legal representation, such as Suteba Multicolor and the Association of Teachers of the Province of Buenos Aires. These actions followed a 24-hour strike by the Frente de Unidad Docente Bonaerense (FUDB) protesting school violence and demanding wage improvements.

Subsequently, educational leaders convened at the XXII Political Educational Congress at the National Technological University. During the assembly, representatives from the Association of Physical Education Teachers (ADEFCA) and the Confederation of Argentine Educators (CEA) addressed systemic issues including declining purchasing power, job precariousness, increased workloads, and infrastructure difficulties. The congress focused on strengthening union organizations and pursuing a National Parity Collective Bargaining Agreement in response to national austerity measures.
