Educational disruptions reported in Ivory Coast and Mayotte
In Ivory Coast, the Haut-Sassandra region is facing educational paralysis following the death of teacher Keita Daouda at the Bédiala corridor. The incident, involving a barrier rope, has sparked intense protests from teacher unions. The Collective of Education-Training Sector Unions in Haut-Sassandra has demanded the immediate removal of the Bédiala corridor, which they claim is illegal as it is not among the 33 officially recognized barriers. They are also calling for an investigation into the death, financial support for the deceased's orphans, and coverage of medical expenses for teachers injured by security forces during the unrest.
Simultaneously, in Mayotte, parents' associations are calling for an end to the prolonged blockade at the Mtsangadoua high school. While supporting demands for better equipment, staffing, and improved working conditions, groups such as APECSN and FCPE Mayotte are urging a return to classes to prevent students from becoming the primary victims of the crisis. They are requesting a verifiable calendar from the Rectorate to ensure that educational progress can resume despite the significant loss of school time.
