Educational initiatives support displaced Gaza children in Egypt and Gaza
Displaced children from the Gaza Strip are accessing education through grassroots initiatives in both Egypt and Gaza. In Al-Arish, North Sinai, Palestinian teacher Hadeel Zureb established a free school that has grown from a small group in a rented building to serving approximately 400 students aged 6 to 18. The Misr El Kheir Foundation supports the school by covering rent and supplies. The curriculum follows Palestinian standards, and the program includes psychological support to help students cope with the trauma of war.
Within the Gaza Strip, school principal Rana Musallam has launched a volunteer-led educational initiative in the Al-Zawayda area. This program serves children from various displacement camps, including those from northern Gaza who have been out of school for up to three years. The initiative provides instruction from preschool to seventh grade and incorporates psychosocial support. However, the program faces significant logistical challenges, as classes are often held in tents or unprepared sites, creating an urgent need for stationery, seating, and proper classrooms before winter arrives.
