Education initiatives for displaced Gaza children
Overview
Grassroots educational initiatives have emerged to support displaced children from the Gaza Strip in both Egypt and Gaza.
In El-Arish, North Sinai, Palestinian teacher Hadeel Zourob established a free school for children aged 6 to 18. Supported by the Misr El Kheir Foundation, the school provides Palestinian-standard curriculum and psychological support to help students manage war-related trauma. The initiative has grown from a small group in a rented building to serving approximately 400 students.
Simultaneously, within the Gaza Strip, volunteer-led programs have been launched in the Al-Zawayda area. These initiatives serve children from various displacement camps, including those from northern Gaza who have lacked schooling for up to three years. While providing instruction from preschool to seventh grade and psychosocial support, these programs face severe logistical hurdles, often operating out of tents or unprepared sites with an urgent need for seating, stationery, and proper classrooms.
