Educational institutions in Malaysia lead reforestation efforts

Educational institutions in Malaysia are conducting reforestation initiatives to support environmental conservation and national greening targets.

In Pahang, UCYP University, in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and the Pahang State Forestry Department, planted 300 trees in the Chini Forest Reserve. The program, involving 100 participants including students and the Orang Asli community, aims to promote social responsibility and climate action. BSN contributed RM10,000 to the initiative.

In Sarawak, Kuching Community College planted 700 high-value native tree species, such as Meranti Putih and Merawan Siput Jantan, in the Sabal Forest Reserve. This effort supports the Malaysia Greening Program 2.0, which targets the planting of 50 million trees between 2026 and 2030. This follows Sarawak's achievement of planting 35 million trees by 2024, ahead of the original schedule.
