Reforestation initiatives in Malaysia
Overview
Educational and community-based reforestation efforts are being conducted across Malaysia to support national and state-level greening targets.
In Pahang, UCYP University partnered with Bank Simpanan Nasional and the Pahang State Forestry Department to plant 300 trees in the Chini Forest Reserve, involving students and the Orang Asli community. In Sarawak, Kuching Community College planted 700 native tree species in the Sabal Forest Reserve to support the Malaysia Greening Program 2.0, which aims to plant 50 million trees between 2026 and 2030.
Further initiatives in Sarawak include a corporate social responsibility program involving Sarawak Energy Berhad. This program focuses on community cleaning and tree planting at SRA Datuk Haji Mohamad Mortadza Haji Daud to foster environmental awareness among students. These efforts align with the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and contribute to the broader national goal of planting 50 million trees.
