Educational institutions launch social engagement initiatives in Spain and Mexico

In Tenerife, Spain, the Cabildo Insular and the University of La Laguna have presented awards for the ‘Aprendizaje-Servicio’ (Service-Learning) program. This educational methodology combines academic study with social commitment. The university category winner was the MANO-MAR project, focused on nature and the ocean, involving 105 pedagogy students. In the non-university category, the award went to a solidarity craft fair involving 1,017 students from Salesianos de La Orotava.

In Colima, Mexico, the University of Colima (UdeC) has launched the ‘Horizontes de Voluntad’ program and inaugurated its first university classroom within the Colima Men's Penitentiary Center. This initiative, a collaboration between the university and the State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, aims to support social reintegration and re-education through education. The opening ceremony was attended by Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva and UdeC Rector Christian Jorge Torres Ortiz Zermeño.
