EFSA and European Commission launch #NoBirdFlu campaign
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission have launched the #NoBirdFlu campaign to provide resources for preventing the spread of avian influenza. The initiative comes as Europe prepares for the autumn bird migration season, a period when the risk of outbreaks typically increases.
The campaign focuses on five key biosecurity measures intended for farmers, veterinarians, and small flock holders: controlling farm access, maintaining cleaning and disinfection routines, preventing contact with wild birds, keeping poultry species separate, and recognizing disease signs early.
Officials noted that avian influenza can devastate poultry populations, disrupt food supply chains, and impact public health. Nikolaus Kriz, EFSA’s Executive Director, stated that the campaign aims to turn scientific knowledge into actionable steps for farmers to apply before viruses reach their farms.
