Egg prices in Nepal rise for fifth time in a month

Egg prices in Nepal have increased for the fifth time in a month, following a new price adjustment by the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association (NLPFA). Effective Thursday, the support selling price for the largest-sized eggs rose by Rs 15 per crate, bringing the cost to Rs 590 per crate of 30 eggs.

Other updated prices include Rs 575 for large eggs and Rs 535 for medium eggs per crate. The surge in costs is attributed to a significant decline in production, which has left supply unable to meet market demand. NLPFA President Binod Pokharel noted that previous bird flu outbreaks necessitated the culling of large numbers of chickens, leading to the current production shortage.
