Egg prices in Turkey surge by 37.8% in August

Egg prices in Turkey experienced a sharp increase in August, recording a 37.8% monthly rise. The unit price climbed from 4.87 lira on July 27 to 6.71 lira by August 28, causing the average price for a 30-count carton to exceed 200 lira.

Producer prices also rose by 39.9% during the same period, increasing from 3.23 lira to 4.52 lira. While annual costs for feed, electricity, and diesel have risen significantly, monthly feed price increases remained below 1%, suggesting that the recent retail spike cannot be attributed solely to monthly feed costs.

Industry representatives, including İlhan Sarı of the Sakarya Poultry Producers Association, noted that seasonal demand linked to the upcoming school season has pressured prices. Additionally, rising costs for packaging, fuel, and transportation continue to impact the sector, which has faced a period of loss for several months.
