Egg Prices Surge in India and Nepal Amid Supply Shortages

In Odisha, India, retail egg prices have risen to ₹9 per egg and wholesale to ₹8.50, driven by heat‑induced chicken mortality, higher feed costs and strong export demand. The state government announced a ₹10 crore subsidy to boost poultry production and stabilize prices.

In Chitwan, Nepal, the Nepal Layers Poultry Association raised the price of a 30‑egg crate to Rs 500 for large eggs (up from Rs 450) after bird‑flu reduced daily production from about 4.5 million to 2.8 million eggs and demand grew. Farmers report losses and are seeking relief.
