Egg producers to distribute millions of free eggs following price-fixing settlement

Major egg producers, including Cal-Maine Foods, Hickman’s Egg Ranch, and Versova/Centrum, are distributing millions of free eggs to food banks across the United States following antitrust settlements. The legal actions, involving state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Justice, addressed allegations that these companies conspired to inflate egg prices between 2022 and 2025.

In Texas, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the distribution of 7 million free eggs through a network of at least 17 food banks. As part of the settlement, the producers are also required to pay $3.3 million to participating states.

In Arizona, Hickman’s Egg Ranch is supplying more than 2.1 million eggs this month to regional organizations, including St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix, United Food Bank in Mesa, and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona in Tucson. The nationwide settlement requires the companies to donate more than 53 million eggs in total.
