US egg producers price-fixing settlement
Overview
Major egg producers, including Cal-Maine Foods, Hickman’s Egg Ranch, and Versova/Centrum, have entered into antitrust settlements following investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and various state attorneys general. The investigations found that these companies coordinated to manipulate a daily egg price index between June 2022 and March 2025, which artificially inflated prices for consumers and retailers.
As part of the settlement, the companies are required to pay a combined $3.3 million to participating states and donate more than 53 million eggs to food banks and nonprofits nationwide.
Implementation of these donations has begun across several states. In Arizona, deliveries have reached the Yuma Community Food Bank, while Hickman’s Egg Ranch is supplying over 2.1 million eggs to regional organizations in Phoenix, Mesa, and Tucson. In Texas, the distribution includes 7 million free eggs through a network of at least 17 food banks.
