Egis enters talks for Turkish bridge and highway privatization

French infrastructure company Egis is reportedly in discussions with officials in Ankara regarding the privatization of bridges and highways in Turkey. The planned privatization aims to transfer operating rights for a 30-year period, including the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, which are currently under the control of the General Directorate of Highways.

To maintain economic integrity, authorities are considering dividing the assets into three or four separate groups for privatization. The process, which will not involve the transfer of ownership, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2031. Methods such as leasing, revenue sharing, and the establishment of non-possessory rights are being evaluated.

In addition to Egis, several other international and domestic entities are monitoring the process. Potential investors include companies from Japan, South Korea, and Spain, as well as Turkish firms such as IC İçtaş, Limak, Kalyon, and Cengiz Holding, which may form consortiums with foreign investors.
