Overview

Turkey continues to expand its transport and logistics infrastructure, with recent developments focusing on maritime cargo, high-speed rail, and urban transit systems. In the maritime sector, 2025 data shows Turkish ports handled approximately 553.3 million tonnes of cargo and 14 million TEU. In Trabzon, the urban rail transit system is scheduled to begin construction with a groundbreaking ceremony at Avni Aker Millet Bahçesi on September 1, 2026. Coordinated by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the first phase will span 16.2 kilometers, connecting the City Hospital to Trabzon Airport via 16 stations. The project, to be executed by a joint venture of Kalyon İnşaat and Makyol İnşaat, is expected to take four years to complete and aims to serve over 87,000 passengers daily.

Other regional infrastructure updates include Erzurum, where the Metropolitan Municipality Council approved re-tendering public transport lines for Pasinler and Horasan and leasing 86 commercial license plates for student and personnel transport. In Manisa, the Soma district is undergoing a 20 million TL rainwater infrastructure project to mitigate flood risks, while Bursa has completed water, sewage, and road upgrades in İznik.
