Egypt accelerates eco‑tourism projects in Sharm El‑Sheikh and Ras Mohammed

Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, met with businessman Hossam Al‑Shaer, chairman of the Sun Rise Group, to review the execution status of several planned environmental investment projects. The discussion covered the redevelopment of Peace Park in Sharm El‑Sheikh, designed to transform the existing green area into a sustainable visitor destination using native plants, water‑saving measures and low‑impact construction.

The meeting also addressed the second phase of the Ras Mohammed Visitor Center, aiming to preserve the site's architectural identity while expanding educational and tourism facilities. Additional proposals included upgrading the Nabq beach area and the Gozlaney beach within the Ras Mohammed reserve, creating integrated eco‑tourism services that respect natural habitats. The ministry emphasized fast‑tracking technical, financial and environmental studies through its environmental investment committee to boost eco‑tourism, increase visitor numbers and protect biodiversity.

These initiatives are part of Egypt's broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism, enhance regional appeal and generate economic benefits while maintaining ecological balance.
