Egypt advances Alam El‑Roum coastal hub and $5 bn medical cities
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Qatari Diar CEO Sheikh Hamad Bin Talal Al‑Thani and Housing Minister Randa El‑Menshawy in New Alamein to review progress on the Alam El‑Roum development, a mixed‑use, year‑round urban and tourism destination on Egypt’s northwestern Mediterranean coast. The partnership aims to create residential, hospitality, commercial, healthcare, educational and entertainment facilities, with international companies involved, turning the area into a permanent city rather than a seasonal resort.
In a separate meeting, Madbouly and Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar examined proposals for two integrated medical cities in the New Capital and New Alamein, backed by an international consortium and financed entirely through foreign direct investment exceeding $5 billion. The projects will include hospitals, medical schools, research centres and related infrastructure, targeting medical tourism and supporting Egypt’s universal health insurance system.
