Egypt advances infrastructure and water project financing
Egypt is advancing several international cooperation initiatives focused on infrastructure, water management, and renewable energy. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam announced support for mobilizing financing for 36 projects within the Nile Basin Initiative’s investment programme. These projects cover hydropower, electricity interconnections, water supply, and multipurpose infrastructure in southern Nile Basin states. To support these efforts, Egypt has launched a $100 million financing mechanism to implement development projects based on regional priorities.
Separately, Egypt’s Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom met with Norfund Chief Executive Erik Sandersen to discuss cooperation regarding the Infrastructure Financing Guarantee Facility (IFGF). The discussions focused on using guarantees to encourage private-sector participation in vital sectors and industrial zones. Potential areas of collaboration include renewable energy projects, energy-storage solutions, and infrastructure to support Egypt’s transition toward a green economy.
