Egypt expands African investment and diplomatic outreach
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty is spearheading a series of diplomatic and economic initiatives to strengthen Egypt’s presence in Africa and its bilateral ties. A primary focus is the planned establishment of a new Egyptian investment entity designed to coordinate continental investments, involving government, banking, and private sectors. To support this, Abdelatty has called on the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) to expand funding for infrastructure and trade projects.
On the bilateral front, Egypt is deepening ties with several nations. In Tunisia, officials are working to increase the presence of Egyptian enterprises, noting that 13 are currently active in the industrial sector. Discussions also centered on leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). In Mauritania, Egypt and Mauritania are looking to host a joint committee in Cairo to boost cooperation in energy, mining, and agriculture. Additionally, Egypt and Kuwait have discussed regional stability and the importance of diplomatic paths to resolve tensions.
Internally, Abdelatty met with heads of Egyptian diplomatic missions to emphasize their role in attracting foreign investment, opening new markets for exports, and supporting Egyptian communities abroad through improved consular services.
