Egypt-Africa economic and strategic cooperation

Egypt is actively pursuing expanded economic and strategic partnerships across Africa. Initial efforts focused on bilateral relations with Chad, where officials discussed strengthening trade, logistics, and infrastructure via a corridor linking Egypt, Libya, and Chad. This cooperation also extends to education and healthcare, including the expansion of the University of Alexandria branch in N'Djamena and medical services.

Building on these regional ties, Egypt has engaged with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) to transition high-level discussions into specific executive cooperation tracks. These efforts aim to leverage Egyptian expertise in infrastructure and sustainable development while utilizing BADEA’s financing mechanisms to support intra-African trade and the African Continental Free Trade Area. To further these objectives, Egypt is planning to establish a new investment entity designed to coordinate economic activities across the continent, integrating government bodies, the banking sector, and private enterprises. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has specifically called on BADEA to expand funding for infrastructure and trade projects to support this vision.

Recent diplomatic efforts led by Abdelatty have expanded this scope through bilateral meetings with Kuwait and Mauritania to discuss cooperation in energy, mining, and agriculture. In Tunisia, discussions have focused on leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to boost joint industrial projects, noting that 13 Egyptian-participation enterprises are currently active in the Tunisian industrial sector. Domestically, the Foreign Ministry is emphasizing the role of diplomatic missions in attracting foreign investment, opening new export markets, and supporting Egyptian communities abroad through improved consular services.
