Egypt and Japan expand higher education and research partnership

Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, conducted an official working visit to Japan from October 3 to 7 to strengthen bilateral strategic partnerships. During the visit, Konsowa met with Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Yoshihiro Seki, on the sidelines of the 23rd Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum in Kyoto.

The discussions focused on expanding the Egyptian-Japanese partnership for education, which was originally launched in 2016 and has now been extended through 2031. Key outcomes include the expansion of the ‘Tokatsu’ diploma program from three to eight universities for the 2026/2027 academic year, and the launch of the first ‘Eji-Kosen’ institute in the 2025/2026 academic year.

New avenues for cooperation will include joint scientific research funding, increased academic exchange, and the development of technological and applied education. The ministers also discussed cross-border education, dual degrees, and joint supervision between Egyptian and Japanese universities to better link scientific research with industrial and developmental needs.
