Egypt and Japan expand scientific research and AI cooperation
During a visit to Japan from October 3 to 7, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdel Aziz Qansoua, held several meetings to expand academic and technological cooperation between Egypt and Japan.
A key component of the visit is the extension of the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP) until 2031, focusing on technological education, scientific research, and innovation. Qansoua met with representatives from Elsevier to discuss enhancing data analysis and research intelligence. The discussions focused on utilizing tools such as Scopus and SciVal to improve the evaluation of Egyptian research systems and increase the presence of Egyptian scientific journals in international databases.
Additionally, the Minister met with Tsuyoshi Sugino, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The talks addressed increasing fellowships for Egyptian researchers, expanding joint research programs, and formalizing the legal status of the JSPS research station in Cairo through a headquarters agreement. Future collaborative research efforts are being explored in fields including water, renewable energy, health, pharmaceutical sciences, and artificial intelligence, with a goal to launch joint research funding calls by 2027.
