Egypt and Palestine discuss Gaza and West Bank unity
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh held discussions regarding the preservation of territorial unity between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The officials emphasized the need to enable the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its responsibilities.
Abdelatty expressed condemnation of Israeli settlement expansion, settler violence, and actions in East Jerusalem and at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He specifically rejected settlement projects in the E1 area, stating they threaten to divide the West Bank and undermine the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders.
The talks also addressed the implementation of the first phase of a US-led peace plan. Key objectives include ensuring the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza and allowing the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to begin operations within the territory.
