Egypt celebrates Farmer's Day with focus on water management
Egypt celebrated Farmer's Day on September 9, honoring the role of farmers in supporting the national economy and ensuring food security. Hani Sewilam, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, participated in celebrations organized by the Wafd Party to mark the occasion.
Minister Sewilam emphasized that supporting farmers and ensuring timely water delivery are top priorities for the Ministry. He noted that the ministry is working toward a “Water 2.0” system, which focuses on modernizing water management through digital transformation, real-time monitoring, and mathematical modeling to improve efficiency and ensure equitable distribution.
The Minister also reported the successful management of the recent peak water demand season. He credited the success to the coordinated efforts of ministry agencies in maintaining canals, drains, and pumping stations, as well as the positive cooperation of farmers in adhering to water distribution schedules and protecting water resources from pollution and encroachments.
